Controls Technician

SparTek Industries is seeking a qualified Controls Technician at our Portland, Oregon facility. The controls technician is responsible for design, testing, start-up, and commissioning of electrical, automation, and controls solutions for process machinery, material handling, and other related applications. The responsibilities and duties of a proficient Controls Technician include:

  • PLC, HMI, and motion programming in multiple environments, primarily Allen Bradley software.
  • Create and edit electrical schematics and controls drawings, including sizing devices, panel layouts.
  • Involved in the implementation, installation, validation, and ongoing development of controls and automation systems to ensure they meet requirements.
  • Handle projects ranging from single machine builds to plant-wide automation processes.
  • Work cross-functionally to optimize product offerings to reduce costs and improve value.
  • Interface with customers to design, develop, and implement projects, troubleshooting, and provide training.
  • Requires occasional travel to customers’ sites for service and commissioning.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of prior industrial controls and automation experience on projects of various sizes and complexities.
  • Skills in Rockwell programming, SLC, Compact Logix, Control Logix, and FactoryTalk View ME required.
  • Knowledge of Ethernet networking, IP addressing DHCP and static, Sub-netting, VLANs, basic routing, managed switch basics.

Qualifications

  • Ability to troubleshoot electro-mechanical systems in test and operational environments.
  • Knowledge of and experience using industry standards and codes, and ability to engineer design based on customer specifications.
  • Expertise creating detailed equipment documentation, technical calculations, and design specifications for automated process equipment.
  • Strong problem solving, organization, detail orientation, and communication skills.
  • Experience designing standard product platforms from initial prototypes.
  • Technical degree or equivalent experience

    Equipment Assembly Mechanic

    SparTek Industries is seeking qualified Equipment Assembly Mechanics at our Portland, Oregon facility. The Equipment Assembly Mechanics are responsible for the final assembly and testing of our custom PLC controlled, hydraulically actuated industrial process machinery. The responsibilities and duties of a proficient Equipment Assembly Mechanic include:

    • Assembling and connecting mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components according to engineering specifications such as blueprints and hydraulic/electrical schematics.
    • Verifying that parts and assemblies meet engineering specifications.
    • Inspecting and testing assembled equipment to ensure conformance to customer specifications.
    • Abiding by all shop safety standards.

    Qualifications

    • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the assembly of PLC controlled industrial process equipment.
    • The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and other written instructions.
    • Able to work in a team environment and collaborate with designers and engineers to analyze and solve problems.
    • Able to safely operate and use hand and power tools.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • A positive attitude and reliable attendance.
    • Welding and manual machining skill preferred but not required.
